Our story

Three decades in Louisa and Washington counties.

Stout Seed was formed in 1993, when Mark Stout took a dealership opening for Garst Seeds. Mark, a young farmer with a family of four, began servicing local farms in Louisa County while maintaining the family farm that included cattle, hogs and grain.

In November 2011 Mark's son, Trent Stout, joined the family business. From working directly with customers to managing operations, Trent's hands-on experience and understanding of what growers need made him a vital part of Stout Seed's success. Expanding genetic lineups over the past decade while building on service and on-farm experience, Stout Seed has earned several sales awards within multiple organizations.

By winter 2020 Trent had transitioned into the role of owner, steering the company into an era of growth: the best genetics and seed on the market, personalized service, and a reputation as an area leader. Today Stout Seed continues to thrive as a family-run business grounded in the same principles that guided its founding. The seed industry has changed dramatically in 30-plus years; our commitment to the customer has not.
